The Balaka commuter train has been stranded for around three and a half hours after its engine broke down at Sreepur Railway Station in Gazipur, leaving hundreds of passengers facing difficulties.
The train developed the mechanical fault after entering Sreepur around 8am on Wednesday, Station Master Shamima Jahan said.
The train, bound for Netrokona from Dhaka, was held up after the engine developed a fault.
Passenger Md Shahinur Alam said the engine suddenly made a loud noise before breaking down, prompting frightened passengers to get off the train.
He said many passengers faced severe hardship as the train remained stuck for hours, with some leaving to find alternative ways to reach their destinations.
After informing senior authorities, railway officials arranged an alternative engine, Shamima said.
The train resumed its journey towards its destination around 11:30am.
