With the 81st UN General Assembly under way in New York, its newly elected President Khalilur Rahman has had a “personal exchange” with US President Donald Trump.
The encounter was confirmed in a post on the General Assembly president’s official X account on Tuesday night, New York time.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur wrote, “A personal exchange with H.E. Mr. Donald Trump, President of the United States.”
Elected to the UNGA presidency in June, Khalilur is now overseeing the 81st session, making him the second Bangladeshi to hold the position.
Bangladeshi politician Humayun Rashid Choudhury presided over the 40th General Assembly session in the 1980s.
Khalilur assumed the presidency on Sept 8. The 81st session opened Tuesday morning under his chairmanship, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also attending.
Trump addressed the opening session that morning.
No details were provided on when Khalilur met Trump or what they discussed.
