Police have arrested a teacher on charges of abducting and raping a 17-year-old female student of a madrasa in Sylhet’s Bishwanath.
Bishwanath Police Station chief Enamul Haque Chowdhury said he was arrested in a raid in Osmaninagar Upazila on Friday.
The teacher, identified as Selim Mia, 42, is married and has three children.
The victim has been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for a medical examination, Enamul told bdnews24.com.
He said, “The father of the madrasa student filed a case at Bishwanath Police Station on Friday under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, naming Selim the sole accused.
“An unknown auto-rickshaw driver has also been made an accused in the case.”
He said the judge ordered Selim into jail after he was produced in court.
The case dossier says the girl, a ninth-grade student at a local madrasa, had enrolled in a Qariyana course at a nearby mosque during Ramadan.
Selim, who was teaching there at the time, allegedly made repeated inappropriate proposals to her, luring her with promises of marriage.
When the girl “did not agree,” Selim “forced” her into an auto-rickshaw on her way to the madrasa around 9am on Apr 16, took her to an unknown place and raped her multiple times.
Around 5pm, he brought her in an autorickshaw and left her in front of her house.
