A woman and her eight-year-old daughter have been hacked to death in Munshiganj’s Sirajdikhan Upazila.

The incident took place in South Rajanagar village of Rajanagar Union on Monday morning, said Sirajdikhan Police Station chied (OC) Md Abdul Hannan.

The dead were identified as 32-year-old Amena Begum and her daughter Mariyam.

According to police and locals, Amena and her family started living as tenants in the locality four months ago. When the door of their rented house was closed late in the morning, neighbours went and called them around noon.

Getting no response, the neighbours forced the door open and found the corpses of the mother and her daughter. Police recovered the bodies when they were reported.

OC Hannan said, “It is still difficult to say who was involved in the incident. It is assumed the murder was committed at some point of the night.”

The incident could have occurred due to domestic feuds or extra-marital affairs, the police officer believes.

The incident is under investigation, he said. “The husband of the woman has gone into hiding since the incident took place. A search is ongoing to detain him."
