The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has pulled in Tk 9.94 billion in unpaid taxes over the last nine months through an extensive series of anti-evasion drives across Bangladesh.

In a media statement issued on Tuesday, NBR’s public relations office said field units and intelligence teams under its Customs and Income Tax division carried out 16,572 separate crackdowns between September and May.

The total amount of dodged taxes discovered through these efforts is estimated at Tk 62.46 billion.

Among them, Customs Houses conducted 2,215 operations, linked to Tk 1.83 billion in evaded revenue, all of which has been recovered, according to the statement.

VAT Commissionerates ran 6,803 raids uncovering Tk 5.13 billion, with Tk 890 million collected.

The VAT Audit, Intelligence and Investigation Directorate carried out 231 drives, exposing Tk 16.39 billion in evasion and recovering Tk 2.4 billion.

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate recovered Tk 730 million during the same period from tax evasion-related drives.

The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) conducted 181 operations, securing Tk 1.94 billion in revenue recovery.

The Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit ran 170 raids, collecting Tk 1.1 billion.

Separately, 41 tax zones conducted 6,972 inspections, recovering Tk 1.05 billion.
