Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Mainul Hassan says police will be on maximum alert at every Puja pavilion during Durga Puja.
Police have taken all kinds of security measures for the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, he said.
His remarks came as he presided over a meeting over security, law and order, and traffic management on Durga Puja at DMP headquarters on Wednesday.
The DMP issued a press release with the information after the meeting.
The DMP commissioner said that all necessary security measures have been taken before, after, and during the festival.
"Police have already started Puja-centric security operations. Uniformed and plainclothed police, along with SWAT, the Crisis Response Team, the Quick Response Team, crime scene vans and the Bomb Disposal Unit will be on standby during Durga Puja."
Hassan called upon the leaders of the Puja celebration councils to keep their CCTVs active at the Puja pavilions during the festival.
"Each pavilion shall be provided with round-the-clock security by law enforcement personnel as well as its own volunteers," he said.
In cases of emergency, he urged everyone to dial the National Emergency Service 999 or the nearest police station.
Hassan expressed his hope that through the collective efforts of everyone, the upcoming Durga Puja will be celebrated safely and smoothly in a festive and joyous atmosphere.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Admin) Farooq Ahmed said during the meeting: "We hope for a Bangladesh where people of all religions can practise their religion without any problems."
DMP Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) Israel Howlader said that the DMP will coordinate with the leaders of every temple in the Dhaka metropolitan area to ensure flawless security during Durga Puja.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Operations) Sana Shaminur Rahman highlighted the main points of the DMP’s plan for the festival in a PowerPoint presentation.
The leaders of the present Puja celebration committees sought full cooperation from the police for the security of the Puja pavilions and proper traffic management on the upcoming occasion.
