A storm-induced disruption to ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia river route has cleared up after rough weather forced vessels to drop anchor for nearly an hour.

Ferry movement on the Manikganj-Rajbari route remained halted from 7:10am to 8am on Wednesday, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office Deputy General Manager Md Salam Hossain said.

He said the services were halted to prevent accidents when a nor'wester struck the dock area around 7am, adding that operations returned to normal at 8am once the weather cleared.

He added that although passengers faced discomfort due to rain during the disruption, no significant vehicle backlog formed at the terminal, with vehicles boarding ferries upon arrival.

A few cattle trucks, however, are still waiting for clearance.

A total of 16 ferries are operating on the route to transport passengers and vehicles.

Paturia terminal Director Panna Lal Nandi said 20 launches are also operating on the Paturia–Daulatdia route, ensuring smooth passenger movement across the river.
