Dhaka, Sept 7 (BDNEWS)- The students of the higher secondary level in seven education boards and their equivalent Madrasa and Technical Education Boards maintained the upward trend of performance this year too.
The average pass percentage in HSC examinations 2006 under seven education boards was 65.65 per cent.
The pass percentage for male students was 66.36 while for female it was 64.64.
The results were published on Thursday. The examinations started in April and ended in May this year. The results were published within 65 days from the end of the examinations.
The Education Minister Dr Osman Farruk along with the chairmen of the education boards handed over the results books to the Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at 4 pm.
The number of total examinees was 5,10,949 this year. Of them 3,35,454 came out successful.
A total of 9,868 students got highest grade point GPA-5 this year as against 5,534 in 2005.
Some 388 educational institutions scored 100 per cent pass record with 314 of them madrasas. Not a single student passed from 86 educational institutions this year. The number was 479 in the year 2001.
Dhaka Board topped the list of pass percentage with 74.76 success rate while Jessore Board was at the bottom with 54.40 pass rate.
The pass percentage in Comilla Board was 63.73, in Rajshahi 56.76, in Chittagong 61.45, in Sylhet 65.45, in Barisal 61.50. The pass percentage in Madrasa Board was 75.23 and in Technical Education Board 69.74 per cent.
In 2006, a total of 1,000 students were expelled from seven general education boards for adopting unfair means. The number was 42,344 in the year 2001.
Top ten colleges in Dhaka Board
In Dhaka Board, Notre Dame College topped the list of GPA-5, the highest grade point, with 875 students clinching it. Viqarunnisa Noon School and College came in second with 519 girls achieving GPA-5.
The number of GPA-5 holders in Dhaka City College was 290, in Rifles Noor Mohammad College 279, Dhaka College 248, Commerce College 227, Motijheel Ideal College 193, Holy Cross College 175, Rajuk Model College 162 and Residential Model College 134.
In Dhaka Board 5 colleges scored 100 per cent pass record. Those colleges are: Rajuk Model College, National Ideal College, Khilgaon, Shafiuddin Academy, Tongi, Ideal Commerce College and Shamsul Haque College, Khilgaon.
In Madrasa Board Tamirul Millat Madrasa, Dhaka topped the list of top scorers.
Of the 88 educational institutions from where not a single candidate came out successful one was in Dhaka Board, eight in Jessore, 22 in Rajshahi, five in Chittagong, three in Barisal, 31 in Madrasa Board and 16 in Technical Education Board.
Of the 388 institutions which scored 100 per cent pass percentage, 22 were in Dhaka, four in Comilla, one in Jessore, 11 in Rajshahi, three in Chittagong, five in Sylhet, three in Barisal, 314 in Madrasa Board and 25 in Technical Education Board.
