Dhaka, Jun 13 (bdnews24.com) — The government has appointed six new judges to the High Court, according to an order issued by the government on Wednesday evening.
The list of new judges includes incumbent Law Secretary Ashish Ranjan Das and two Deputy Attorneys General ABM Altaf Hossain and Qazi Mohammad Ajarul Hoque Akand.
The other three new appointees are Badruzzaman Badal, Mahmudul Hoque and Zafar Ahammed.
Joint Law Secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Md Jahirul Hoque will replace Das following the appointment, said a media statement from the law ministry.
The appointment would take effect from the day the six takes oath as new additional judges, it said.
Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain is expected to administer oath to the newly-appointed judges on Thursday.
There are 98 judges currently working at the High Court and the new appointments will take the number to 104.
Traditionally, newly-recruited judges are regularised in their job after two years of their appointment.
So far, the Awami League-led government has appointed 56 judges including some regularisation since it assumed power in 2009.
