The bodies of six Bangladesh Army personnel, who were killed while serving in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Sudan’s Abyei, have arrived in Dhaka.

The aircraft carrying the bodies reached Shahjalal International Airport at 10:50am, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).

An official said that their bodies have been kept in the capital’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH). They will be buried with state honours on Sunday.

On Dec 13, six soldiers were killed and eight others were injured in a drone attack by an armed separatist group on a UN base in Abyei.

The dead have been identified as Corporal Md Masud Rana; soldiers Md Mominul Islam, Shamim Reza and Shanto Mandal; Mess Waiter Md Jahangir Alam and laundry worker Md Sabuj Mia.

The injured peacekeepers are Lt Col Khondaker Khalequzzaman, Sgt Md Mostakim Hossain, Corporal Afroza Parvin Iti, Lance Corporal Mohibul Islam, and soldiers Md Mezbaul Kabir, Mosammat Umme Hani Akhter, Chumki Akhter and Md Manazir Ahsan.
