Kishoreganj, Oct 05 (bdnews24.com) – A Kishoreganj court has sentenced five members of outlawed Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh to 14 years rigorous imprisonment in an explosives case.
Judge SM Abdus Salam of Kishoreganj Special Tribunal-2 gave the verdict on Monday.
The sentenced are Din Islam, 25, Mohammed Abdul Hannan, 24, 'Hossain', 22, And 'Harun', 27, from Shatuta village in Bajitpur upazila, Kishoreganj, and Shafiqul Islam, 22, from Jamur village in Sherpur upazilla, Bogra.
The five were implicated in the explosives case after JMB's Mymensingh area commander Mohammad Shafiqul Islam was arrested on July 15, 2007, in a murder case filed at Muktagacha police station.
A Rapid Action Battalion team from Bhairab raided Shatuta village two days later based on information from Islam.
The RAB team recovered 15 grenade casings and six packages of powerful explosive gel. and took four men into custody on charges of possession.
The explosives case was filed by a RAB officer on July 18 at Bajitpur police station against the five men sentenced Monday.
Bajitpur police chief Ataur Rahman, also the investigating officer, submitted the charge sheet a month later.
