Workers of NASSA Group have blocked a key road in Dhaka's Tejgaon industrial area, demanding payment of overdue wages.
The action has brought traffic to a standstill in both directions, spilling congestion onto surrounding streets.
The workers sat down on the road outside Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station around 10am on Tuesday, shouting slogans over their demands and cutting off traffic in both directions.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Gulshan Traffic Division said on Facebook that movement on Tejgaon Love Road, also known as Tajuddin Ahmad Road, remained suspended, causing heavy congestion in adjoining streets.
Police's Additional Deputy Commissioner (Industrial Zone) Imran Hossain says traffic on the Tejgaon-Mohakhali road is suspended in both directions after workers took up positions near Love Road.
“They [workers] are being engaged in talks, and discussions are also ongoing with senior officials and the management.”
