A woman has admitted to killing her lover before dismembering his body and scattering it across different locations in Chattogram, police say.

Police recovered different parts of the body of the victim, a butcher identified only as Anis, from canals and surrounding areas in Shahid Nagar and Loharpool under Bayezid Bostami Police Station throughout Friday.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (North) Amirul Islam said the victim’s girlfriend, identified with a single name Sufia, was arrested in Shahid Nagar in connection with the killing.

Her brother, identified only as Musa, and her son-in-law were also held.

Police recovered different body parts of the victim, a butcher identified only as Anis, from canals and surrounding areas in Shahid Nagar and Loharpool under Bayezid Bostami Police Station throughout Friday.

On Thursday afternoon, a police team recovered two severed hands and two legs of an unidentified man from two separate locations near Oxygen Mor in Bayezid Bostami.

A forensic team later confirmed the man’s identity through fingerprint matching, establishing the remains as those of Anis, a resident of Raozan Upazila.

Investigators found that Sufia, who also hails from Raozan, is a mother of four -- three daughters and a son.

Police detained Sufia from her residence in Shahidnagar, and during questioning, uncovered details of the crime.

Officer Amirul said Sufia, aged around 35 to 40, had been involved in an extramarital relationship with Anis for a long time and that tensions had recently developed between them over personal issues.

During interrogation, Sufia reportedly told police that Anis had been blackmailing her in recent days.

She “admitted” to calling him to her home, killing him by striking him on the head, then cutting the body into pieces and disposing of them in Shahid Nagar, Loharpool and nearby areas.

Later on Friday afternoon, police recovered Anis’s head from a canal near Loharpool.

“We have recovered the dismembered body parts based on Sufia’s confession,” the officer said, adding that police suspect her brother may also have been involved in the crime.

Police said legal proceedings are under way in connection with the killing.
