A filling station in Noakhali’s Subarnachar Upazila has come under attack after motorists, unable to obtain fuel, allegedly vandalised the premises in a burst of anger.
Two people have been detained and handed over to police.
The incident took place in the afternoon at Noorani Filling Station, said Char Jabbar Police chief Lutfor Rahman.
Quoting witnesses, police said drivers of motorcycles and other vehicles had been queuing since morning to refuel.
Around 5 pm, authorities announced that fuel stocks had run out, triggering frustration among those waiting.
A group of young men then launched an attack on the station, damaging parts of the facility. When workers attempted to intervene, tensions escalated between the two sides.
At one point, station workers detained two of the attackers and handed them over to police.
The two could not immediately be identified.
Station Manager Md Faruk Hossain said, “We supplied fuel in an orderly manner from 9am. When we announced at 5pm that stocks were exhausted, we came under sudden attack, and our office room was vandalised.”
Officer Lutfor said extra units were deployed, adding that legal action will be taken against the detained.Noakhali, fuel crisis, vandalism, filling station, Bangladesh, law and order
