Ramisa’s father Hannan hospitalised with ‘chest pain’

Doctors say he is physically fit, but suggest hospital observation

Hannan Mollah, father of Ramisa Akter, the 8-year-old who was “raped and murdered” in Dhaka’s Pallabi, has been admitted to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) with complaints of “chest pain” after a fever.

The institute's Director Abdul Wadud Chowdhury confirmed Hannan’s admission on Monday.

Wadud said, "[Hannan] had a fever for the past five days. [On Monday,] he came to the hospital after suddenly feeling chest pain.

“I think he had a viral fever, which is why he was feeling pain in the heart cover [rib cage]."

The NICVD director said Hannan will be kept under observation at the hospital.

"[Hannan] is completely fine. He’s so fine that he wants to go home now. But we want to keep him under observation for two-three more days."

Hannan does not have any physical complications, Wadud added.

Police recovered Ramisa’s body from a flat in Pallabi on May 19.

Law enforcers said 32-year-old Sohel Rana, who was subletting the flat, severed the child’s head that morning and then escaped by cutting the window bars of the flat.

His wife Swapna Akter stayed back, and was arrested.

That evening, Sohel was arrested from Narayanganj’s Fatullah.

Hannan filed a case with Pallabi Police, naming the couple as suspects.

The brutal incident sparked widespread outrage across the country, forcing the government to promise a speedy trial.
