4 more children die of measles-like symptoms, 115 new cases identified

The DGHS says 1,170 people have gone to hospitals with measles-like symptoms and 942 of them have been hospitalised in a day

Four more children with measles-like symptoms have died over the past 24 hours. An additional 115 confirmed cases of measles have also been identified over the period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its daily bulletin on Friday that 49 people have died of measles across the country since Mar 15, while another 231 people with measles-like symptoms have also died over the period.

The Dhaka Division has seen the highest death toll in patients with measles-like symptoms, recording 106 fatalities. The Rajshahi Division has recorded 70.

The DGHS says that, over the 24-hour period, 1,170 people have gone to hospitals with measles-like symptoms and 942 of them have been hospitalised.

Dhaka also logged the highest number of hospital admissions with 370, while Rangpur had the least with 14.

Since Mar 15, approximately 38,301 suspected measles cases have been registered across the country. Of them, 5,146 were diagnosed with the highly-infectious disease.
