A mild earthquake has been felt in Dhaka and several other parts of Bangladesh.
The tremor struck at 9:28pm Bangladesh time on Monday.
No casualties or damage were reported immediately after the quake.
Rubayet Kabir, an official at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Seismic Observatory and Research Centre, said the earthquake measured 4.0 on the Richter scale.
“The epicentre was in Narayanganj’s Rupganj, around 16 kilometres east of Dhaka,” he said.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS), however, recorded the earthquake at a magnitude of 4.4.
According to the France-based European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 16km.
The latest tremor comes months after a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck on Nov 21, 2025. Its epicentre was in Madhabdi of Narsingdi, around 13km from Dhaka.
