Police have arrested former National Board of Revenue (NBR) officer Motiur Rahman, who made headlines over a goat scandal, and his wife.
He was arrested from the Bashundhara Residential Area on Tuesday night, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammed Talebur Rahman.
Police detectives arrested Motiur and his wife, former Upazila chairman Laila Kaniz, he said in a statement.
However, the police statement did not specify which case the NBR officer and his wife were arrested for.
A man named Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat went viral on social media after he posted on Facebook about purchasing a goat for Eid-ul-Azha at a price of Tk 1.5 million.
The post sparked speculation at the source of the man's income after the extravagant expense. In social media posts, Ifat identified Motiur as his father.
This led to scrutiny of potential corruption by the former tax official.
