Dhaka’s National Eidgah ground is ready for the main Eid-ul-Azha prayer congregation.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, cabinet ministers, political leaders, diplomats, and prominent citizens will join thousands of worshippers to offer their prayers at the ground on Thursday morning.

Authorities have wrapped the venue and its surrounding area in a tight security blanket.

State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam visited the grounds on Wednesday to look over the final touches alongside Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed.

Speaking afterwards, the state minister said the main Eid congregation would begin at 7:30am and all preparations had already been completed.

He said both the president and the prime minister would join the prayer service at the location.

Alam added that arrangements have been made for around 35,000 Muslim devotees, including separate facilities for men and women, with designated ablution and prayer spaces.

Worshippers have been urged to enter the venue early due to security requirements.

The minister also conveyed Eid greetings to city residents and people across the country.

A large canopy has been installed across the Eidgah grounds for the congregation.

Ceiling fans, lighting and sound systems have already been fitted, while mats and carpets have been laid out across the field.

DSCC chief Salam said preparations have been taken to ensure prayers can continue even in adverse weather.

He said, “We hope for divine support. Rain will not cause any damage inside. Even if it rains, prayers can continue here without difficulty.”

He added that if extreme weather such as storms or flooding occurs, alternative arrangements will be announced on Thursday morning.

Welcome Gates at the Ready

Decorative arches have been installed at the entrance of the Eidgah with Eid greetings and messages of goodwill.

One reads: “Eid Mubarak: May sacrifice inspire our lives, may our hearts be filled with blessings of a safe and healthy life.”

Another banner carries greetings from the DSCC administrator, calling for peace, unity and compassion on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

A separate entrance through the Supreme Court area has been arranged for VVIP guests, while four main gates will remain open for worshippers entering the Eidgah.

Three additional northern gates will be used for exit after prayers.

Separate entry routes, prayer areas and ablution facilities have also been arranged for women.
