The public administration ministry has appointed 1,490 candidates to different cadres under the 44th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).
This recruitment comes seven months after the Public Service Commission (PSC) initially shared its recommendations.
The ministry’s new recruitment branch issued the order on Thursday, made official on Friday.
Among those joining the civil service, 244 officials are entering the administration cadre, 48 have been posted to the police, and nine are joining the foreign service.
Also, 11 officials have joined the tax cadre and 29 are headed to the audit and accounts department, alongside several others in different technical and general roles.
The ministry directs the new recruits to report to their controlling ministries or assigned offices by Feb 9.
Ministry officials say that failing to report on this date will be treated as a refusal of the post, resulting in the immediate cancellation of the appointment.
On Nov 11, 2025, the PSC published the 44th BCS results for the third time, nominating 1,676 candidates after fixing "discrepancies" in the data.
This followed the first set of results on Jun 30 that year, where 1,690 candidates were initially cleared.
A total of 303 candidates declined to join, as they had already been recommended for the same or lower-tier cadres in previous exams.
A supplementary list released on Nov 6 also contained “errors”, prompting the latest revision.
The exam circular was issued on Nov 30, 2021, with plans to recruit 1,710 officers.
The viva exams began in April 2024 but were suspended twice -- first due to the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, then again on Aug 25 following the government change.
Out of 11,732 candidates who passed the written exam, only 3,930 had completed their vivas by that point.
To ensure "fairness" following the political transition, the commission scrapped the previous interviews and launched a fresh viva process on Dec 22, 2024.
