A local leader of the BNP in Faridpur Sadar has been expelled from the party after a video showing him engaged in sexually explicit conduct circulated on social media.
Md Obaidur Rahman, the organising secretary of the Aliyabad Union BNP, was removed from both his party post and primary membership.
The decision was announced in a letter issued on Thursday night.
The letter said Rahman was expelled for "moral misconduct" and instructed party leaders and activists at all levels to sever organisational ties with him.
The move came after a 5-minute, 37-second video allegedly showing Obaidur engaged in sexually explicit conduct with a woman spread across social media.
Obaidur could not be reached for comment despite repeated phone calls to his mobile phone.
Faridpur district BNP Convener Syed Modarres Ali Isha said an explicit video involving Rahman had circulated on social media and that, after the allegations were found to be true, the district BNP decided at a meeting on Thursday night to expel him from the party.
