A boy has died of burn injuries he suffered in an explosion following a gas leak at a home in Narayanganj’s Fatullah, taking the death toll from the incident to three.
Munna, 7, had been undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka and had suffered burns on 30 percent of his body.
He died around 9:40am on Thursday, said Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, assistant professor at the institute.
Munna’s father and sister had also died from burn wounds suffered in the incident.
Kotha, Munna’s 7-year-old sister, had died around 6:45pm on Wednesday at the same hospital. She had burns on 52 percent of her body, doctors said.
The explosion occurred in an apartment on the ground floor of a six-storey building in the Giridhara area on Sunday. A couple and their three children were injured by the blast.
The five victims were taken to the national burn institute. Shawon said they all arrived at the institute in “critical condition”.
On Monday, 35-year-old Md Kalam died of his wounds. He had burns on 95 percent of his body.
Kalam’s wife Saima, 32, and their daughter Munni, 10, are still undergoing treatment. Saima has burns on 60 percent of her body, while Munni has burns on 35 percent.
Kalam was a vegetable trader. The Fire Service and Civil Defence says the blast at the family’s home was caused by a leak from a Titas Gas line.
