Three passengers of a battery-powered van have been killed and six others injured when it collided with a bus in Chirirbandar Upazila, Dinajpur.

The accident took place around 8pm on Wednesday along the Dinajpur-Rangpur highway, police said.

Two of the dead have been identified as Aduri Begum, 18, and Morsheda Begum, 35.

Another person, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, died while being taken to the Syedpur Upazila Health Complex in Nilphamari.

Citing witnesses, police said the casualties occurred as a bus heading towards Dinajpur from Rangpur collided with a battery-powered van coming from the opposite direction.

After the accident, the bus driver fled, and the agitated crowd set the vehicle on fire. Traffic movement on this road was halted for some time.

Local police chief Ruhul Amin said traffic returned to normal about 40 minutes later, after police arrived and brought the situation under control.

He said the injured have been admitted to the Syedpur Upazila Health Complex. The dead bodies will be handed over to the families after completing the legal process.
