Five policemen have been injured after attackers hacked them to snatch away a suspect in Mymensingh.
The suspect in handcuffs escaped with the attackers.
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion and the Army have been deployed to keep the situation under control following the attack.
Police have arrested the father of the suspect.
Mymensingh Kotwali Police chief Md Nazmus Sakib said the incident occurred at 4pm on Tuesday at Digarkanda in the city.
The injured policemen have been admitted to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The fugitive has been identified as Ariful Islam, son of Sagar Ali, who hailed from the area where the attack took place.
Ariful and his associates were recently accused in a case over hacking a local man named Russell, identified with a single name. The man is currently under treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation.
Ariful was arrested by a five-member police team, led by Sub-Inspector Farid Ahmed, who is the investigating officer of the case, in Digarkanda on Tuesday afternoon.
Sagar led several hundred people carrying sticks and sharp weapons to launch an attack on the police team taking his son to the police station.
Nazmus Sakib said the attackers beat and hacked the policemen indiscriminately.
Farid said there was an assistant sub-inspector and three constables in his team, and all of them were seriously injured.
Drives are being conducted to arrest the fugitive and those responsible for the attack.
