Twenty-five Bangladeshis among 49 dead in Nepal plane crash

Twenty-five of the 36 Bangladeshis, including two children, on board the US-Bangla Airlines plane that crashed in Nepal, have died.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam confirmed the news of their deaths on Monday in a Facebook post.

bdnews24.com could not independently verify the list he posted, however. 

There were 71 people on board the plane – 67 passengers and four Bangladeshi crew members.

The other passengers included 33 from Nepal, including 13 students of a medical college in Bangladesh, one from China and one from the Maldives.

 

The plane, a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400, took off from Dhaka at 12:52pm Bangladesh Standard Time and crashed into a fence of the Tribhuvan International Airport at 2:18pm Kathmandu time.

Co-pilot Prithula Rashid and crew member Khwaja Hussain have died in the tragedy.

The Bangladeshi passengers who have died in the disaster, according to the state minister, are:

Rokibul Hasan, FH Priok, his minor daughter Tamarra Prionmoyee, Rafiq Zaman Rimu, his wife Sabzida Haque Bipasha, their minor son Aniruddha Zaman, Nazia Afrin Chowdhury, Umme Salma, Foysal Ahmed, Eakub Ali, Alifuzzaman, Bilkis Ara, Begum Harun Nahar Bilquis Banu, Akhtara Begum, Hasan Imam, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Akhi Moni, Meenhaz Bin Nasir, Motiur Rahman, SM Mahmudur Rahman, Tahira Tanvin Shahi Reza, Pias Roy, and Nuruz Zaman.

Hailing from Sirajganj, Rokibul was a software engineer. He studied at the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology or RUET and married his peer Emrana Kabir Hashi, who survived the accident.

Rafiq, a former journalist who had worked at bdnews24.com, worked for children with disabilities.

His wife Bipasha was working as a public relations officer at a citizens’ rights organisation, Shujan.

They were travelling to Nepal with their 6-year-old son Aniruddha as tourists. All three are dead.

Pias, a student of Sheikh Sayera Khatun Medical College in Gopalganj, was a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Foysal was a staff correspondent at Boishakhi TV. He hails from Shariatpur.

US-Bangla CEO Imran Asif has said they would take steps for the treatment of the injured and bringing back the bodies.
