Rangpur, June 26 (bdnews24.com) – A fierce clash between two groups of people from 10 villages at Chhatra union in Pirganj upazila has left at least two dead and 200 injured.
At least 300 houses were ransacked and 200 set on fire in those villages during the clash, Rangpur police superintendent (SP) Saleh Mohammad Tanvir Ahmed told bdnews24.com.
Police arrested 11 people in connection with the incident, and hundreds of riot police personnel were deployed in the area to bring the situation control, he said.
Rangpur additional SP, circle ASP and Kotwali Police Station officer in-charge were rushed to the spot, he added.
Saleh said, "The clash started in the early hours of Sunday involving 10 villages following the death of two persons in the Saturday's clash between the residents of Dhakipara and Kamarpur villages."
The clash on Saturday started over gambling which left at least 30 injured. Of them, five critically injured were admitted to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Two of the injured, 'Jahidul' and 'Mokter', died on Saturday night. The news of their death let the villagers clobbering one another again.
The village dwellers were on the run to evade arrest when the reports last came in.
