Badiul Alam hopes to see 100 women’s seats in parliament under rotation system

He urges investment in women’s potential

Electoral Reform Commission chief Badiul Alam Majumdar has expressed hope that 100 seats will be reserved for women in the next parliament under a rotation system, calling it a “good” approach.

At a roundtable held on Thursday in Dhaka, he highlighted that despite efforts, women face barriers preventing them from securing representative positions.

Badiul said: “Women are not our burden. We must invest in them. We want to increase women’s seats. There will be 100 seats for women and this will be on a rotation basis.”

The roundtable, titled “Inclusive Politics: The Journey of Women and Youth Leadership”, was held at the BIISS auditorium in Eskaton and organised by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS).

Senior politicians, academics, and representatives from civil society took part in the discussion.

Participants discussed the existing barriers to women's and youth participation in national politics, as well as possible pathways to building a more inclusive democracy.
