Md Mahfuz Alam, the coordinator of the liaison committee for the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, has been appointed as the special assistant to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.
The Ministry of Public Administration announced the hiring in a notification on Wednesday.
Mahfuz has been recruited on a contractual basis, contingent upon relinquishing any employment or affiliation with other institutions and organisations, it said.
The appointment comes with a rank and salary equivalent to that of a secretary, along with other related benefits.
The appointment will remain effective from the date of his joining until the end of the chief advisor's term or at his discretion, whichever comes first.
Mahfuz was a student in the 2015-16 academic session in Dhaka University’s law department.
He hails from Isapur village in Lakshmipur’s Ramganj Upazila and is known on campus as a theoretical leader of the Ganatantrik Chhatra Shakti.
