Home Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said there is no security risk at pandals across the country during the approaching Durga Puja.
Speaking at the Ramkrishna Mission Ashrama in Narayanganj on Monday, he said: “This year's preparations for Durga Puja are better than previous years. There is no possibility of any untoward incidents.
“This is a religious festival, and arrangements have been made to ensure people of all faiths can participate while upholding its sanctity. There is no security risk anywhere."
The advisor later joined a meeting of the law and order committee at the district administrator’s office in the afternoon.
He said that CCTV cameras have been installed at the pavilions, and from the day construction began, committee members have been deploying volunteers round the clock to ensure security. From Sept 24 until the end of the festival, police, Ansar personnel and female volunteers will also remain posted at the mandaps, he added.
Jahangir also said there are about 33,000 Puja mandaps across the country this year and that each one has received government grants.
“Shops can be set up in front of the Puja pandals, but there will be no fairs. The shops that are set up must be approved by the district administration and the Puja committee."
