Former cabinet secretary Ali Imam Majumder has been appointed as Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser with the rank, status, and perks of an advisor.
The appointment was made under the orders of President Mohammed Shahabuddin, according to a Cabinet Division notification issued on Monday evening.
Yunus, who took office on Thursday amid nationwide unrest following the fall of Sheikh Hasina government, has assumed control of 25 ministries, including the Cabinet Division, Ministry of Defence, and Armed Forces Division.
The interim government was formed on Thursday in response to the chaotic situation across the country following the fall of the Hasina administration.
On that day, Yunus and 13 advisors took the oath of office, followed by the swearing-in of two more advisors on Sunday.
Majumder, 74, served as the cabinet secretary from December 2006 until his retirement in November 2008.
During that period, he also held the additional responsibility of principal secretary.
Before that, he was the secretary of the labour and employment ministry.
He joined the civil service in 1977 through the administration cadre.
He has also served as a member of the Planning Commission, and as chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Sonali Bank Limited.
Currently, he is a member of the Trustee Board of Transparency International Bangladesh, or TIB, and works as a consultant on various projects for the Japan International Cooperation Agency, or JICA.
Hailing from Cumilla, Majumder studied mathematics at the University of Chattogram, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in the subject.
