Commission chief says no update on implementation of ACC reform recommendations

Iftekharuzzaman urges government to fast-track enforceable recommendations

Iftekharuzzaman, head of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Reform Commission, has said he was not aware of any clear update on the progress of implementing the “actionable” recommendations outlined in the report.

He said the government’s progress remains unclear, but the law ministry has appointed a consultant to assist in the legal reform process, which is expected to begin soon.

Speaking to reporters after a five-year MoU signing between the Transparency International Bangladesh, a global anti-corruption organisation, and the ACC on Wednesday, Iftekharuzzaman expressed concerns about the “lack of clarity”.

He said while they hope for swift progress, they still have no information on how much headway has been made on the recommendations that can be implemented by the government and later executed by the ACC.

This, the commission chief said, remains a cause for concern.

“We urge the government to prioritise these recommendations and create an environment that ensures the ACC can properly fulfil the responsibilities assigned to it,” he added.
