Dhaka, Mar 11 (bdnews24.com) –The government has nominated 10 distinguished personalities for the Independence Award 2012.
The nominations were made on the basis of their glorious and outstanding contributions at the national level, said an official release on Sunday.
The award recipients are: The daily Sangbad editor late Bazlur Rahman (posthumous), The no. 2 accused in the 'Agartala conspiracy case' shaheed lieutenant commander Moazzem Hossain (posthumous), the then sub-divisional officer (SDO) of Sirajganj and Liberation War organizer at the region Shaheed Abul Kalam Shamsuddin (posthumous), Dr Syeda Badrun Nahar Chowdhury for rendering medi-care services to the freedom fighters in Chandpur and freedom fighter Nayeem Gahar, Chittagong University former vice-chancellor Abul Fazal (posthumous), eminent physician and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) vice-chancellor professor Pran Gopal Datta, Nazrul researcher professor Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Agriculture researcher agriculturist Dr Kazi M Badruddoza, US expatriate scientist and eminent physicist Dr Quamrul Haider.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the awards at a function at 11am on March 25 at Osmany Memorial Auditorium in the city, the statement added.
