Only two people are now allowed to accompany passengers to the driveway and canopy area at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, according to the airport authority.

In a statement on Thursday night, the authority said: “From Sunday, a maximum of two individuals will be allowed into the departure driveway and arrival canopy at Shahjalal International Airport to bid farewell to or welcome passengers.”

The airport authority says the measure is being taken to maintain the flow of passengers, avoid congestion, and ensure security.

The Dhaka airport authority did not previously have any specific restriction on the number of people who could come to the airport to greet or see off passengers.

According to information from the airport authority, approximately 18.5 million passengers use Shahjalal International Airport every year. It operates at least 190 international flights every day.
