Dhaka, Jan 16 (bdnews24.com) -- Dialog Telekom, Sri Lanka's largest mobile operator with more than three million customers, has contracted Ericsson to deploy the core network of South Asia's first third generation (3G) cellular mobile network Tuesday.
Dialog's 3G customers will enjoy high-speed access to the internet using HSPA or high speed packet access technology that is embedded in 3G.
Ericsson's HSPA solution currently offers more than three megabits per second internet access from a mobile phone.
"We respect their thorough professionalism and commitment as the first 3G operator in the region," said Amarjeet Singh, managing director, Ericsson Sri Lanka.
"We will continue to support them to make sure we have a world-class 3G network in Sri Lanka."
Besides mobile broadband, the Dialog users will savour a platter of media-rich services such as video telephony, mobile TV streaming, IP telephony, and GPS-based services. It is expected to further solidify the ISO 9001 certified operator's leadership as innovative and futuristic service provider in Sri Lanka.
Dialog Telekom Limited is a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia. Besides its core mobile telephony business, the company provides international services, supporting an international gateway infrastructure providing retail and wholesale international voice and data services under the brand name of Dialog Global.
