US President Donald Trump has floated new names for artificial intelligence and announced plans to create an “AI Force”, while dismissing growing concerns over the technology as a political “hoax”.
Trump posted a poll on his Truth Social platform asking followers to choose a new name for AI: “Superior Intelligence”, “Extreme Intelligence” or “Supreme Intelligence”, according to TechCrunch.
A few hours later, Trump accused Democrats of trying to undermine the AI industry, without providing evidence for the claim. He said he would not stand by and allow what he described as an attack on AI and data centres to succeed.
Trump said he would “cherish” and support the AI industry as it grows, while creating an AI Force modelled on the Space Force established during his first term, the report said.
He also said he would soon appoint an AI “Czar”, adding that “only high I.Q. individuals need apply”. He did not explain what the proposed force or czar would be responsible for.
TechCrunch also noted that announcement comes as debate over AI safety has intensified. Some researchers and technology leaders have raised concerns about the risks posed by increasingly capable AI systems, while critics have argued that fears about existential threats can distract from more immediate harms.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has backed Trump's position, calling the backlash against AI a “hoax” and saying the industry should not slow down.
