Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan has emphasised the importance of building consensus for the national interest.

"Political and ethical consensus is needed to achieve the people’s trust. Everyone must work together to implement the necessary reforms for the welfare of the people", she said.

She made the remarks while speaking to journalists after paying tribute to the Liberation War heroes at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar on the occasion of Independence Day on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

She believes it is crucial to set aside personal and political interests in order to reach a consensus in the national interest.

"Although there are different points of view, the process of reducing differences and uniting in the national interest continues. The development of a fair judicial system will play an important role in increasing the people’s confidence," she said.

"Efforts are underway to hold a free and fair election to fulfil people’s expectations. In addition, it is now a big challenge for us to carry out a fair trial for the killings that occurred in July-August."

She continued, “We will try to ensure that people get a sense of justice through the trial, which will foster an atmosphere of trust."

The advisor urged everyone to prioritise the national interest and said the reforms would be carried forward based on the people's demands.

“Over time, all parties will come together and build the necessary consensus for the country’s progress," she said.
