Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman.
The meeting took place on Monday at the Jamaat chief’s office in Dhaka’s Bashundhara residential area, according to a party statement.
The Chinese embassy also shared photos of the meeting on its Facebook page.
Jamaat said the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, noting that the historic friendship between China and Bangladesh continues to play an important role in the welfare of the people, development cooperation, trade and cultural exchanges.
Both expressed optimism that the relationship would be further strengthened in the future.
In a separate statement, the Chinese embassy said the discussions covered China-Bangladesh relations, party-to-party exchanges and other common interests in a cordial and constructive atmosphere.
“Both sides agreed to deepen friendly cooperation in various fields and to further develop the China-Bangladesh Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, so as to bring more benefit to the people of both countries,” the embassy statement added.
