Khaleda visits Ziaur Rahman’s grave after seven years

She has not been to the resting place since 2018

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has visited the grave of her late husband, former president Ziaur Rahman, for the first time in seven and a half years.

She arrived at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar mausoleum around 11pm on Wednesday, her personal physician and party Standing Committee member AZM Zahid Hossain confirmed.

“She wished to visit the grave of the martyred president, so came late at night”, he added.

The BNP chief left her Gulshan residence “Feroza” in a blue car bearing the party flag.

Upon arriving near the grave, she offered prayers from inside the vehicle.

She was accompanied by Nasrin Iskander, widow of her late brother Saeed Iskander, and Kaniz Fatema, wife of her brother Shamim Iskander.

The former prime minister last visited her husband’s grave in February 2018, before her arrest that same year. Since then, she had been unable to return until now.
