The former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president was set to appear before Dhaka’s Special Judges Court-1 in a case over embezzling tin on Thursday.

He was brought from Narayanganj jail and kept in court lockup where several of his lawyers and supporters met him without police permission.

Kotwali Police SI Debabrata stood in their way causing Pintu to fire up.

He charged towards the Hindu policeman while assaulting him verbally. Pintu called him ‘Malaun’, which translates from Arabic to ‘accursed’ and is a derogatory term for a Bengali Hindu.

“Hey you from Gopalganj (Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s village home), Malaun, son of a pig, you will lose your job.”

His lawyers Aslam Uddin and Touhidul Islam tried to restrain him and requested journalists to help in solving the crisis.

“Pintu is already very upset. He has been in prison for a long time. Police should be more cautious in their behaviour towards him.”

Pintu’s other lawyer sought help from Md Borhanuddin, Dhaka Lawyers Association former president, and general secretary Mosleh Uddin Jashim.

“Pintu got angry because he was called ‘mental’. So he began cursing the officer,” said Borhanuddin.

‘I objected because the lawyers were trying to get in prison without permission. It is my duty. But Pintu charged at me using a very bad slur,” said SI Debabrata.
