Sirajganj, Jan 12 (bdnews24.com) — Romana Mahmud, a BNP MP, has been accused of violating the code of conduct in the ongoing municipal polls in Sirajganj.
Witnesses said Romana went to cast her vote at Saleha Government Girls' High School poll centre around 10am in her official car she got as a parliament member.
Using unauthorised vehicles during the polls is prohibited.
Sirajganj returning officer Nishchinta Kumar Poddar told reporters that legal steps would be taken against Romana for violating the election rules.
Romana, wife of former state minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, is an MP from Sirajganj-2 constituency.
Polls in 72 municipalities of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions are under way amid high security and biting cold.
In Sirajganj municipality, Mokaddes Ali is a BNP-backed mayoral candidate while K M Hossain Ali Hasan is a pro-Awami League candidate.
Expelled BNP leader Noor-e-Alam Helal is also vying for the mayoral post.
