Jamaat-led 11-party alliance finalises 13 nominees for women’s reserved seats

The alliance nominates eight from Jamaat, two from NCP, and one each from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, JAGPA and July slain’s family

The Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party electoral alliance has published the final list of nominees for the women’s reserved seats in parliament.

According to the list released on Monday, of the 13 nominated candidates, eight are from the Jamaat-e-Islami and two from the National Citizen Party (NCP).

One candidate each has been nominated from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, JAGPA, and a family member of a slain July activist.

The list includes Jamaat’s women’s wing Secretary and Central Executive Member Nurunnisa Siddiqa, Central Executive Member Marzia Begum, former president of Islami Chhatri Sangstha and Central Executive Member Sabikun Nahar Munni, Media and Publicity Secretary Nazmun Nahar Nilu, Sylhet city women’s Jamaat Secretary Mahfuza Hannan, Bogura region women’s Jamaat Director Sajeda Samad, Chattogram North district women’s Jamaat Secretary Shamsun Nahar Begum, and women’s rights movement central member Marzia Momtaz.

Others include Rokeya Begum, mother of July slain Jabir Ibrahim; NCP Joint Convenor Monira Sharmin; Joint Member Secretary Mahmuda Alam Mitu; JAGPA President Tasmiya Pradhan; and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis representative Mahbuba Hakim.

The list was announced in the evening by Hamidur Rahman Azad, coordinator of the 11-party alliance and assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami.
