Ganosamhati leader Zonayed Saki’s wife owns more than double his wealth

Saki identifies himself as a “publisher” in the affidavit submitted to comply with election law

Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolon, has declared assets worth less than half of those owned by his wife, according to an affidavit filed with his nomination papers for Bangladesh’s upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.

Saki entered the race for parliamentary polls by filing his nomination papers for the Brahmanbaria-6 constituency. Election law requires candidates to submit 10 categories of information in the affidavit, which can be publicised. He is a potential candidate from the alliance led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP.

In the affidavit, Saki identified himself as a “publisher” and said he owned assets worth more than Tk 4.6 million. His wife Taslima Akhter, a “teacher and photographer”, the affidavit said has assets worth Tk 12.3 million.

According to his income tax filings for the 2025–26 fiscal year, as mentioned in the affidavit, Saki’s annual income stands at Tk 772,936. The affidavit describes three sources of income: Tk 120,141 from business, Tk 2,795 from savings certificates, and Tk 600,050 from his occupation as a ‘publisher.

Taslima, on the other hand, has an annual income of Tk 2,309,211. Of this amount, Tk 480,400 comes from rent of various immovable properties, Tk 310,369 from savings certificates, Tk 690,000 from other professions, and Tk 828,000 from house and shop rent.

Saki also owns 4.45 hectares of non-agricultural land, which was not valued in the affidavit. He has also deposited Tk 320,000 as an advance with Bestway Nationwide Housing Limited, the affidavit said.

His wife owns 0.073 hectares of agricultural land, valued at Tk 15,000. In addition, she also owns a 3,250-square-foot flat and a 167-square-foot shop, valued at Tk 2,868,934.

According to the income tax return, Saki paid Tk 37,640 in income tax, while his wife paid Tk 273,448.

Saki was born on Dec 9, 1973. He has a bachelor’s degree. His permanent and present address: Char Lohenia village, Fardabad Union, Bancharampur Upazila.

The affidavit also asserted that Saki was never accused in any criminal case.
