Jatiya Party (Manju) Chairman Anwar Hossain Manju has accused the interim government of unprecedented humiliation, saying the way it is being done “will be written in history”.
On Saturday at the party’s national council, the senior politician said Bangladesh was now being run by a “non-government”, sidelining those who had struggled for the country’s people.
He criticised interim advisors, claiming they had been brought back from abroad to write reforms without an implementation plan.
Manju, a former minister under both HM Ershad and Awami League-led governments, recalled his political journey from his university years opposing Pakistan’s injustices to helping create an independent Bangladesh.
“Now another revolution is happening in the Bangladesh we created,” he said, questioning whether the ongoing reforms would ever conclude.
He voiced doubts about whether elections would be held at all, warning of possible irregularities.
In a sarcastic aside, he suggested parties divide up seats and ministries instead of spending Tk 50 billion on polls. The movement, he said, had once been for people’s rights, but now no one talks about freedom of speech or press freedom.
The former six-time MP from Pirojpur-2 also decried “politics of grabbing”, alleging businesses and shops were being seized and extortion carried out in a breach of law and order.
Manju’s comments come amid internal rifts in Jatiya Party, with rival leaders holding the conference without GM Quader, sidelined by a court order on Jul 31. Despite the split, leaders from both factions were present at the event.
Manju was briefly detained after the fall of the Awami League government on Sept 2 last year and faces five cases linked to past student protests.
His remarks on Saturday underscored growing political uncertainty and discontent under the interim administration.
