Saiful Haque, general secretary of the Bangladesh Revolutionary Workers Party, has declared possession 478g gold, while his wife has declared 816g, both filed as “gifts”.

Saiful has also declared annual earnings of Tk 863,000 from agriculture, savings certificates, and talk shows.

His wife, Bahni Shikha Jamali, a member of the party’s political council, earns Tk 787,000 annually as editor and publisher of a weekly and a monthly magazine.

She owns both immovable and movable assets worth millions.

The veteran leftist leader has filed nomination papers for the national election from Dhaka-12.

In his affidavit, he disclosed income and details of both movable and immovable assets for himself and his wife.

Initially, Saiful listed his age as 35 and his highest educational qualificatiom as HSC.

Speaking to bdnews24.com on Tuesday, he said: “It was a typing error, later corrected during verification.”

The revised affidavit now states his age as 67 and his highest educational qualification as bachelor’s degree, which is already published on the election commission’s website.

According to the affidavit, Saiful holds Tk 51,000 in cash, while his wife has Tk 298,000.

His annual income includes Tk 18,000 from agriculture, Tk 425,000 from savings certificates, and Tk 420,000 from talk shows. Bahni Shikha earns Tk 467,000 from savings certificates and Tk 320,000 from other sources.

Among his movable assets, Saiful has savings certificates worth Tk 40,000, a car worth Tk 1.15 million, electronics worth Tk 280,000, and furniture worth Tk 110,000. The acquisition cost totals Tk 5.59 million, with a current value of Tk 13.3 million.

Bahni Shikha’s movable assets, excluding gold, include savings certificates worth Tk 4.5 million and a mobile phone valued at Tk 26,000. The acquisition cost is Tk 4.82 million, with a current value of Tk 18.8 million.

In immovable property, Saiful owns 0.404 hectares of agricultural land, valued at Tk 3.5 million, while his wife’s assets are estimated at Tk 8-9 million, including a Tk 6.6 million apartment.

Income tax returns show total assets of Tk 4.72 million for Saiful and Tk 11.4 million for his wife.

He paid Tk 77,530 in taxes for 2025-26, while his wife paid Tk 46,780.

The affidavit states that Saiful has never faced criminal charges in decades of political activity.

The BNP-led alliance has nominated him as its candidate for Dhaka-12.

However, independent candidate Saiful Alam Nirab and Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Saiful Alam Khan Milan are also contesting in the seat.
