Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has visited the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) central office in Naya Paltan on his first visit to the headquarters since becoming the head of government.

The BNP chairman arrived at the office at 7pm to a rapturous welcome from thousands of party activists and supporters, who had begun gathering in the area since 2:30pm.

By late afternoon, the stretch of road outside the office was completely packed with crowds chanting celebratory slogans.

After entering the office premises, he exchanged greetings with party leaders and activists before holding discussions on organisational matters, said Atiqur Rahman, the prime minister’s additional press secretary.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Vice-Chairman Nurul Islam Moni and other senior leaders attended the meeting.

Earlier in the day, Tarique attended a parliamentary party meeting at Parliament Complex. The session focused on the party's legislative strategy and upcoming parliamentary proceedings.

In the run-up to his visit, tight security measures were in place around the BNP central office, with members of the Special Security Force (SSF) and other law-enforcing agencies maintaining a strict vigil to maintain order.
