The National Citizen Party is optimistic about receiving registration as a political party from the Election Commission, with party Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary announcing that “good news” is on the way.
Nasiruddin also reiterated that the NCP would not back down on its demand for the Shapla symbol.
After a meeting with the chief election commissioner (CEC) on Monday afternoon, he said: “We are heading towards a positive outcome in the registration process, and we are expecting good news in the coming months, likely after July.”
However, when it comes to the party symbol, the NCP remains firm on its demand for the Shapla symbol, either in white or red.
“We will not move away from our request for the Shapla, white Shapla, or red Shapla. There is an ongoing conspiracy to undermine our symbol, but we remain resolute,” Patwari added.
He said: “If this symbol is not granted, we know how to claim it.”
NCP Joint Member Secretary Zahirul Islam Musa said: “We have met all the conditions required for registration and are hopeful that the EC will soon announce a positive decision.”
A three-member NCP team met with CEC AMM Nasir Uddin to discuss the matter on Monday.
The law stipulates that parties seeking registration must have a central committee, at least one-third of district committees, and 100 sub-district committees, each with at least 200 supporters.
The EC is finalising the registration process ahead of the parliamentary polls, with a decision expected within a week after ground-level investigations.
