15 JS Standing Committees formed

The parliament Tuesday formed 15 parliamentary standing committees, leaving one post each for the main opposition BNP and reserved women MPs vacant.

Dhaka, Feb 17 (bdnews24.com) – The parliament Tuesday formed 15 parliamentary standing committees, leaving one post each for the main opposition BNP and reserved women MPs vacant.
Most of the ruling Awami League heavyweights and former ministers have been made chairmen of the standing committees.
Oli Ahmad, chief of the opposition Liberal Democratic Party, has been made chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the planning ministry.
With Tuesday's committees, 17 standing committees have been formed. On Feb. 11, parliamentary standing committees on the ministries of finance and law were formed.
Former industries minister Tofail Ahmed was elected parliamentary standing committee on the industries ministry. The other members of the 10-member committee are Kamal Ahmed Majumder, Ali Asghar, Meraj Hossain Mollah, Mohibur Rahman Manik, Anwarul Ahsraf Khan, Zahid Malek and S M Abdul Mannan.
Abdur Razzaq, former water resources minister, will chair the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry. Ramesh Chandra Sen, AB M Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Abdur Rahman, A K M Fazlul Haq, Zakir Hossain, Abdullah Al Islam Jacob and A B M Anwarul Haq are the other members of the standing committee.
Former commerce minister Abdul Jalil was made chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry. Faruq Khan, Nurul Islam, Tipu Munshi, Abdul Latif, Afil Uddin, Joynal Abedin and Abul Kashem will also sit on the committee.
Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, former health minister, was elected chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the health and family welfare ministry. The other members are AFM Ruhul Haq, M Amanullah, MA Mannan, Motiur Rahman, Anwar Hossain, Murad Hasan and Begum Momtaz Iqbal.
Rahmat Ali, former state minister for local government, was elected the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the same ministry. Syed Ashraful Islam, Jahangir Kabir Nanok, Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton, Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin, A H M Mostofa Kamal, Ashraf Ali Khan and Monowar Hossain Chowdhury will also sit on the committee.
Former diplomat A H Mahmud Ali was elected chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on foreign ministry. The other members are Dipu Moni, Hasan Mahmud, Imran Ahmad, Mostofa Faruq Mohammad, Imaz Uddin Pramanik, Nilufar Zafor Ullah and Hossain Mokbul Shahriar.
Abdus Salam will chair the parliamentary standing committee on the home ministry. The other members are Shahara Khatun, Mirza Azam, Tanjim Ahmed Sohel, Md Mujibul Haq, Nurul Islam Sujan, Sanjida Khanam, Habibur Rahman and Shafiqul Islam.
Rashed Khan Menon has been elected the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the education ministry. The other members are Nurul Islam Nahid, Mirza Azam, Biren Sikder, Sheikh Abdul Wahab, Shah Alam, Ziaur Rahman and Kazi Faruk Kader.
Obaidul Quader, former state minister for youth and sports, was elected chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the information ministry. The other members are Abul Kalam Azad, Reza Ali, Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh, A B M Mozeem, Sarah Kabari Begum, Anisul Islam Mandal and Shariar Alam.
Hasanul Haq Inu has been elected chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the telecommunication ministry. The other members of the committee are Raziuddin Razu, ASM Feroz, Abdul Quddus, Moazzem Hossain Ratan, Solaiman Haq Zoarder, Abdul Wadud and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury.
Mojibor Rahman has been made chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the religious affairs ministry. The other members are Shahjahan Mia, Motiur Rahman, Promod Mankin, Habibur Rahman Mollah, ABM Abul Kashem, Sadhan Chandra Majumder and A K M Awal.
Former home minister Rafiqul Islam will be heading the parliamentary standing committee on the liberation war ministry. Amir Hossain Amu, A B M Tajul Islam, Shajahan Khan, Shawkat Momen Shajahan, Khan Tipu Sultan, AKM Rahmatullah, Shamsur Rahman Sharif and Wares Hossain Belal will sit on the committee.
Anisul Islam Mahmud was elected chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the expatriates welfare ministry. The other members are Khandakar Mosharaf Hossain, Ishaq Hossain Talukder, ABM Abul Kashem, Md Shahabuddin, Mahmud-us-Samad, Maruf Saqlain and Mostaq Ahmad Ruhi.
Khandaker Asaduzzaman was elected chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the establishment ministry.
Sheikh Hasina, Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Abdus Shahid, ABM Golam Mostofa, HN Ashiqur Rahman, MA Mannan and Abu Talha are the other members.
