Sri Lankan police on Sunday reported that there had been a seventh explosion, the fourth at a hotel, reports Reuters.

The latest explosion to be reported was at a hotel near the national zoo, which is in an area near the capital Colombo.

"There was an explosion in a hotel in Dehiwela near the zoo," a police official told Reuters adding that there were no further details available.

An eyewitness on local TV said he saw some body parts including a severed head lying on the ground near the hotel.

Zoo officials declared the zoo closed after the blast.

An eighth blast was reported in the district of Dematagoda in Colombo, according to the BBC.

Sri Lanka's government has declared an island-wide curfew from 6 pm local time, the report added.

Reports so far suggest that two policemen were killed in that explosion. Witnesses also spotted a severed head and parts of bodies at the scenes.

The Sri Lankan government has shut down access to major social media messaging services, reports Reuters.

But the BBC reports that it has received sporadic social media messages from people in Sri Lanka. The extent to which the messaging services are affected is unclear so far.
