6 dead, many injured in explosion at army depot in India

At least six people have been killed and several were injured after an artillery shell exploded during handling at an Army depot in India, reports NDTV news.

The incident took place during the destruction of unserviceable ordnance at the field range near the Central Ammunition Depot (CAD) in Pulgaon in Wardha district of Maharashtra around 7am on Tuesday, according to the Indian media.

Earlier, the Army has confirmed that, an ordnance factory employee and two labourers were killed while unloading 23 mm ammunition for disposal.

The ammunition was being taken to an open ground at Pulgaon Army depot, 80 km from Nagpur, when the incident happened. An ammunition factory based in Khamaria, Madhya Pradesh, was given the site for disposal of the explosives, the Army said.

In 2016, 16 people were killed in a blast at the ammunition depot at Pulgaon.
