Bangladesh reports six more deaths with measles symptoms, 78 new confirmed cases

The death toll linked to measles and its symptoms has reached 816 since Mar 15

Bangladesh has reported six more deaths with measles symptoms over the past 24 hours.

The total number of fatalities linked to confirmed measles infections and suspected cases has risen to 816 since Mar 15.

Among the dead, 721 were among people who died with measles symptoms, while laboratory testing confirmed measles infection in 95 of the fatalities.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Saturday that Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of deaths with measles symptoms at 316.

Sylhet Division has reported the second-highest toll with 106 deaths, followed by Rajshahi with 90, Mymensingh with 67, Chattogram with 57, Barishal with 43, Khulna with 32, and Rangpur with 10.

According to the DGHS daily bulletin, 613 people with measles symptoms sought treatment at hospitals across the country during the 24 hours from 8am on Friday.

Of them, 581 were admitted to hospital, while laboratory tests confirmed measles infection in 78 people during the same period.

Since Mar 15, the number of patients admitted to hospital with measles symptoms has reached 105,298.

Among them, 101,535 have recovered and been discharged after treatment.

The DGHS said a total of 122,763 people have sought treatment for measles symptoms during the outbreak so far.

Laboratory testing has confirmed measles infection in 15,272 cases.

However, the health authorities noted that not every patient seeking treatment or admitted to hospital undergoes laboratory testing, meaning the confirmed case count does not fully reflect the scale of the outbreak.
